Happy Weekend!

We've had stormy weather off and on for the past couple of days, but now the sky is clear and the weather is nice and cool.  A beautiful "Fallish" day...
We have a full house coming in tonight and a busy weekend ahead.
This afternoon I'm loading up the Coffee and Sweet Shop with mini peanut butter fudge cakes, topped with a rich peanut butter cream cheese frosting and sprinkled with chopped fresh roasted peanuts and also some chocolate chip cookies.  There is nothing quite like the aroma of fresh homemade cake, straight out of the oven....Hope everyone enjoys!

With Fall just around the corner, it's almost Apple Butter time!  Every year my mom comes down and we all make a trip to the orchard.  We spend the afternoon "apple picking", along with sneaking an occasional glass of the best fresh apple cider you've ever tasted!  We spend the next couple of days pealing, chopping, straining, boiling and baking.  (and of course lots of laughing, too!)  The special blend of cinnamon and spices, along with a "secret" ingredient,  has been handed down through generations in our family.  Once all the jars are canned, we bake a batch of homemade biscuits and everyone samples the the tasty autumn treat.   Many of our guests continue to inquire as to what the "secret" ingredient is, that makes it taste so amazing.  So far, I have kept the secret safe, but deep down I have always known that the real "secret" to it's success are all of the stories, laughter and the love that comes from a weekend spent in the kitchen with my mother...

Have a wonderful weekend!
